How to water houseplants

Check first, then water deeply.

5 min read

Overwatering kills more houseplants than underwatering.

How

  1. Push a finger into the soil to check moisture
  2. Water when the top inch or so is dry for most plants; let succulents dry more
  3. Water slowly until it drains from the bottom
  4. Empty the saucer after 15 minutes
  5. Water less in winter when growth slows
