Pets and houseplants

Check before you bring it home.

4 min read

Many common houseplants are toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or eaten.

Keep them safe

  • Check each plant on the ASPCA's toxic and non-toxic plant list
  • Keep toxic plants out of reach, or choose pet-safe ones
  • Watch for chewing, especially with cats and puppies
  • Lilies are especially dangerous to cats

If your pet eats a plant

Call your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435. A fee may apply.

General information. Check the ASPCA's plant list for pet safety. The Everyday Grove isn't paid by any plant shop or brand.
